“Elena Nova” the JV 42 chartered by MH 16’s member Andrew Pearson took honours in all but one race in the series to take 1st overall in the IRC division at the recent Magnetic Island Race week.
Racing was held in both light and fresh warm winds and clear blue skies. Combined with warm waters it was another fantastic event to finish off the winter yachting calendar.Second overall was the hotly raced Far 40 “Ponyo”, with last year’s winner and 16’s member, Peter Sorenson sailing Justin Brownbuilt’s “Cocomo” in third.
Pearson who has been a supporter of the race week for some years said this year’s event attracted another record entry list of 75 yachts and a good time was had by all. The whole event is just fabulous and worth the extra effort to get there.
The Elena Nova crew also consisted other MH 16’s stalwarts including our own Lloyd Harrison, Matt Lumsdaine and old Sando who now lives up in QLD!. The crew were all great and whilst we only had a couple of younger guys on board, the old blokes like Sando and Lloyd showed they have not lost their touch or their sense of humour!Lloyd said “this is a great regatta with the racetrack less than 10 minutes away and accommodation, bars and entertainment right at the marina- one not to be missed!”
Andrew also thanked Harry West for his great crew work on the bow for the run north!
