Windsurfer 2013 NSW State Champions

Hugh Richardson and Carina Flodin

Last weekend the Club hosted the Windsurfer 2013 NSW State Championship for original and one design boards.

Despite not getting a race in on Saturday due to lack of breeze, Sunday saw 4 races completed which was sufficient to constitute a series.

Congratulations go to Hugh Richardson and Carina Flodin, (MH16's members and junior parents), who won their respective divisions in the Original Board class.

A great weekend was had by all and we look forward to hosting the Windsurfer Association in the future.

Middle Harbour Juniors

Over the weekend of October 20th and 21st October, the Middle Harbour Juniors attended a regatta at Port Kembla. Below are some great photos, stay tuned for the story to follow...

Middle Harbour Junior Sailors now competing at International Level

In the last week of July , Skipper, Harry Price (MH16'SC 29er Club Champion) and his crew, Nathan Edwards ( MH16'SC Junior -  MJ , F11 and 29er Club Champion) , competed in the 29er World Championship Regatta in Travemunde , Germany.

The event comprised 218 boats from 24 countries and the boys competed as part of an eleven boat Australian team  who travelled to Europe for the event . The regatta consisted of nine qualifying races followed by a  final series of ten races.

With the long days of the Northern Summer and the slight winds on many of those , each day started with a 9.15 am briefing and often saw them out on the water  until after 5 pm in the afternoons.

After enduring  the long days and taking on  the world class competition, Nathan and Harry qualified in the Gold Fleet for the final series and, in this, their first competition at World level , took out 16th place overall and were first Aussie Youth team (under 18) for the regatta , an awesome result for two of our Youth Sailors .

Youth 29er Achievement

Our congratulations need to go to two of our Youth sailors! Harry Price and Nathan Edwards sailing their 29er "Crunchie" finished 3rd overall in the QLD Winter Youth Championships which wrapped up last weekend at Royal Queensland Yatch Squadron at Wynnum-Manly. The fleet comprised Australia's representatives heading to Germany later this month for the 29er World Championships so a 3rd place was no mean feat! Harry and Nathan are attending the Worlds so this regatta was a great lead in and, with expectations of 270 entries in Germany, Middle Harbour 16's will be represented well by these two young sailors. In addition, Harry's sister Olivia (also a member of the Club) is also overseas as Australia's skipper in the Women's Match Racing competition at the London Games. The Club extends it's best wishes to Olivia and her crew in the campaign to return with Gold!

Wine Appreciation Dinner

A great night was had by all on the first Wine Appreciation Dinner held at the Club on 2nd May. Superb wines complimented a first class menu. Our guest speaker Jane Ferrari was witty and informative, providing an amazing insight in the heritage of Yalumba and the winemaking industry.

Jane  has written a fantastic blog which can be found on yalumbastories.wordpress.com for 3/5/12 titled "Skiffies, The Spit and the Middle Harbour 16ft Skiff Club".

"Congratulations on the fantastic wine appreciation dinner the club hosted. The food was 5 star quality & the wines matched accordingly. A big thank you to Yalumba (Jane was a scream) and chef Jeremy, Joan, Josh, Pete, Pete, Wally & any of the other Zest team I may have missed. We have been to a number of these dinners in the past and this one wins hands down. Once again congratulations to you all - can't wait for the next one.

Regards, Murray & Jill Binney"

Stay tuned to our website as plans are in place for another dinner later in the year.
