Renovations - Update
We are delighted to announce that work has officially started on the rennovations at the Middle Harbour 16ft Skiff Club. We are very fortunate in our architect, Dreamtime Australia, headed up by Michael McCann who has designed many award winning venues such as Flying Fish, Bavarian Beer Cafe at Manly Wharf and the 360 Sydney Tower.
After a lengthy tender process we are extremely happy to advise you that the works will be carried out by Giro Constructions, a well renown north shore business and long term supporter of the club. Demolition has started inside the club and we have a construction schedule lasting approximately 20 weeks. The sailing season will start as normal on the first weekend of September and we hope to have the club open by the end of the year. We will advise members of projected opening dates nearer the time.
We will keep members advised of progress here - so keep checking for regular updates.
So how's the Skiff Club going?
We are all so fortunate in the friendship and lifestyle that the Middle Harbour 16 foot Skiff Club has allowed us. I am constantly reminded of the history contained within the walls as the stories of races, parties and relationships (some bearing great grand children) emanate from the bottom of many a glass, growing taller and bluer as the glasses pile up.
I speak for myself, when I admit that the hardest part of these past frustrating months, has been maintaining a smile and focus on the end game, whilst harbouring murderous impulses against certain banks, consultancies, councils, lawyers, whoever caused the GFC and every well meaning member who has asked casually, in passing, "So how is the club going?"
In an effort to ensure that everyone is "up" on the club (and more selfishly, that my questionable sanity preserved) this blog will feature the inside track on what's going "down".
Here's to our new club!

Week Ending Friday 16th July
We finally recieved the construction certificate, the fencing is now up around the club (thanks Oliver Hire Co!) and Giro Constructions have started work, well, de-constructing things. This photo is taken with back to the harbour looking out towards Spit Road.
There is only so much they can remove before the new steel beams are put in to support the new moveable walls which will give us greater flexibility and space optimisation. This is taken standing at the old club bar looking north through the function room.
