2009 National Titles will be forever remembered.....
By Nathan Hendry
For a fledgling fleet of 13's, Middle Harbour is proving themselves to be a force not to be reckoned with. After recently overwhelming the State Titles top placings, the Middle Harbourians lined up once again at the National Titles held at Illawarra Yacht Club. All eyes were on Sheads.com.au skippered by Daniel Watterson and crewed by Rick Plain, the boys gave no mercy to there competition and successfully took line honours in 5 of the 7 races. Not a easy feat considering they were up against some pretty tough competition from the Manly Club and Birth place of the 13. To say that Manly was the only club to present a challenge though could be a little short sighted. Middle Harbour represented 13, Sydney Swans, skippered by Scott Cotton & Harry West and Crewed by Ben Gunton, managed to take 3rd overall. An all in all Shining result for a fleet that is only 3 seasons old.
Middle Harbours Senior Fleet was not poorly represented either with Bob Jane T-Mart sailed by Nathan Wilmot and crewed by Peter Mackie and Peter Hubble scoring a 5th overall in the scratch results. Not quite the result Hubble was hoping for, but none the less a result that he doesn't dissappoint in. The Eventual Winner of the 16s and now 2 time National Champion being Fire Stopping from Manly.
Well Manly, looks like you hold that piece of Silverware for yet another Year, but it looks like the Manly 13's Trophy Cabinet is set for a very empty Winter......

13's dominate State Titles
By Nathan Hendry
Mother Nature can be a right bugger at times. This season seems to be proving that with winds being all over the shop. No different to any other season you say? Well, you are probably right but to get to the point, it seems that old bat (Mother Nature) decided she didn't like this seasons set up for the State Titles and therefore threw a few spanners into the works. It played havoc for both the 16's and the 13's with the 16's champion and very unexpected title holder.... The 13's however is one that Middle Harbourians can be no happier than an old man who just found a misplaced Viagra Tablet! This Seasons honour of 13 State champion goes to Dan Watterson and Richard Plain onboard Sheads First National, taking the Gun in 3 of the 4 Heats.  Now these boys decided however, that they didn't want to do this the easy way. Instead they threw caution to the wind and resulted a third in the First Heat. The tactic seemed to have worked however, allowing the opposition to be lulled into a false sense of security...... The remaining 3 Heats all came up Milhouse with a clean Sheet to The Sheads Boys.
However that is not all to cheer about. No, you see Middle Harbours end result for the 13's actually dominated the top 5 of the Final Results. A Bang up job considering we only had 4 entrants. A massive congratulations must be extended to Scott Cotton/Emma Thompson & Ben Gunton on Sydney Swans with a 3rd overall, Norhtside Sailing Schools Simon Williams and Rob Size in 4th and Bryce Waters and Karen Muller in 5th onboard Live Wire. My only comment is, what happened to second?

Chefs Special

Barons has landed at the Club!

....and he's brought along his Pale Ale. A touch of barrel-roasted crystal malt is blended with wheat and barley malt, the wheat ensuring a dense, creamy head. Three New Zealand hops are used, including the newly developed Nelson Sauvin which imparts subtle floral and passionfruit notes. A flavoursome beer that perfectly balances complex hops tastes with malt creaminess. A thirst-quenching ale.
The boys have always been big fans of good Pale Ales, yet they found many had little balance, were too in-your-face with big upfront aromas that faded fast, while others were laid-back and lacked character. Barons Pale Ale follows none of these trends, delivering a flavoursome and highly ‘session-able’ pale ale.
The flavour of Barons Pale Ale won’t bail on you like a mate after a practical joke gone wrong- it’ll stick around until your girlfriend takes you back and the paint dries.

Wine of the Month

Sauvignon Blanc. This wine is a zesty fruit driven style that showcases the refreshing, clean characteristics of Sauvignon Blanc. Fresh aromas of gooseberry and capsicum are followed by a lively palate of lime and asparagus with a crisp, dry finish. This fresh white wine is the perfect partner to many styles of Australian modern food as well as being a fantastic pre-dinner drink.
Cabernet Merlot. The Talinga Park Cabernet Merlot is a classic, medium bodied red wine that showcases the ripe flavours of Cabernat Sauvignon skilfully blended with soft smooth Merlot. This rich falvoured wine displays enticing flavours of plum and spicy berry fruit with savoury oak nuances and silky mouthfeel. It is the perfect partner to many styles of modern Australian food as well as farmhouse cheeses.
